EV Charger Installation Cost in Fort Worth (2026 Guide)

Fort Worth EV registrations doubled between 2023 and 2026. We install Level 2 chargers across Tarrant County almost daily. Here's what installation really costs in 2026.

    Typical Fort Worth Install Prices

    | Scenario | Installed Price |

    |---|---|

    | NEMA 14-50 outlet, garage next to panel | $650 – $950 |

    | Hardwired Tesla / ChargePoint, garage next to panel | $900 – $1,400 |

    | Hardwired charger, 30–60 ft run through attic | $1,400 – $2,200 |

    | Detached garage, trenched conduit run | $2,200 – $3,800 |

    | Panel upgrade required first | +$2,400 – $3,400 |

Prices include Fort Worth permit, inspection, and a 40–60 amp double-pole breaker.

    Hardwired vs NEMA 14-50 Outlet

  1. NEMA 14-50 — Cheapest upfront, works with the mobile connector Tesla and Ford include. Limited to 32A continuous charging (about 25 mi/hr).
  2. Hardwired 48A — Adds ~$300 in labor but delivers 44 mi/hr on Tesla, Ford, Rivian, and any J1772 vehicle. Also the only compliant option in garages without GFCI-protected 240V circuits (2023 NEC).
  3. For most Fort Worth homeowners buying a Model Y, Mach-E, or Lightning: hardwired 48A is the right call.

    Fort Worth Permit Requirements

Fort Worth requires an electrical permit for any new 240V circuit. We pull it — you don't. Typical inspection window: 2–5 days after install. City fee is $85–$140 depending on circuit count.

    Rebates & Tax Credits

  4. Federal 30C tax credit — 30% up to $1,000 for hardware + install in eligible census tracts (much of east and south Fort Worth qualifies)
  5. Oncor commercial rebate — for multifamily / workplace only, not single-family
  6. No current Texas state rebate for residential Level 2 as of mid-2026
  7. What About 100-Amp Panels?

If your Fort Worth home was built before 1990, there's a good chance you have a 100-amp panel. A 48A charger requires ~60A of headroom. Options:

    1. Load management device (Wallbox Pulsar Plus, Emporia) — dynamically throttles the charger when the house draws heavy loads. Adds $200–$400. Works on 90% of 100A panels.

  8. Panel upgrade to 200A — see our [200-amp panel upgrade cost guide](/blog/cost-to-upgrade-200-amp-panel-burleson-tx). Necessary if you're also adding a heat pump or second AC.
  9. How Long Does Install Take?

Most Fort Worth installs are done in 3–5 hours the same day. Trenched or long attic runs can push to a full day. We schedule city inspection separately — you don't have to be home.
