Cost to Rewire a House in Texas: 2026 Homeowner Guide

"How much to rewire my house?" is one of the biggest-ticket questions we get. Here's the honest 2026 DFW answer with no upsell.

    Real 2026 DFW Rewire Pricing

    | Home Size | Standard Rewire | With Drywall Repair |

    |---|---|---|

    | 1,000–1,500 sq ft | $8,500 – $12,500 | $11,500 – $16,000 |

    | 1,500–2,500 sq ft | $12,500 – $17,500 | $16,000 – $22,500 |

    | 2,500–3,500 sq ft | $17,500 – $22,000 | $22,000 – $30,000 |

    | 3,500+ sq ft | $22,000+ | quote by scope |

What's included: all new NM-B Romex, all new outlets/switches (spec-grade), AFCI/GFCI breakers where code-required, new grounding, permit, and city inspection. Panel upgrade is usually additional ($2,400–$3,400 — see our [panel cost guide](/blog/cost-to-upgrade-200-amp-panel-burleson-tx)).

Do You Actually Need a Full Rewire?

Most DFW homes don't. Full rewires are justified when:

  1. Knob-and-tube wiring (pre-1950 homes)
  2. Cloth-insulated wiring where insulation is crumbling
  3. Aluminum branch-circuit wiring (1965–1975) — often remediable without full rewire
  4. Multiple failed insurance inspections
  5. Renovation opening 60%+ of walls anyway — do it now while walls are open
  6. Homes from the 1980s onward with copper Romex almost never need a full rewire — just targeted upgrades.

    Timeline: What to Expect

  7. Prep & permit: 3–5 business days
  8. Rough-in (occupied home): 5–10 working days for a 2,000 sq ft house
  9. Drywall patching: 3–7 days
  10. Trim, devices, testing: 2–3 days
  11. City inspection: 1–3 days
  12. You can live in the home during most of it — we work one room at a time and restore power nightly.

    What Drives the Price

  13. Plaster + lath (1940s–1950s Fort Worth homes) — 25–40% more labor than drywall
  14. 2-story with finished attic — harder cable runs
  15. Slab foundation — most DFW homes; adds ceiling/attic routing complexity
  16. Number of new circuits (kitchen splits, dedicated appliance, EV, HVAC)
  17. Panel upgrade required or not
  18. What You Can Skip

  19. Fancy "designer" outlets in unseen spots — spec-grade is code-compliant
  20. Whole-home surge if your panel is old — do panel first, then add surge for $325
  21. Free On-Site Rewire Assessment
